Bronwen Kretz
Wood Spirit
A seed of memory germinated when echos of the past washed over me like the waters of the Aegean Sea. This magical piece of nature journeyed from the shores of Gallipolli. Its spirit rekindled echos from the past, gone but not forgotten, reaching out and bonding man with the elements.
Sydney, Australia. An Australian/Swiss whose life has been blessed by the beauty of the alps, the outback and the sea. A sculptor and installation artist, who finds working with found objects exciting and revels in the challenge of weaving different materials together. Over the years, Bronwen has been large scale mandalas from discarded vegetation, metal and wood, at times combining all three, for exhibitions. A committed volunteer, at present she is mentoring a Tibetan humanitarian refugee and is president of the Swiss Australian Cultural Association.
"My soul's reverence for creation increases whenever I behold the miracle of a sunset or the beauty of the moon." — Mahatma Ghandi, 1869-1948.
Art became a part of my life through the Swedenborg Centre where I heard a lecture on western mandalas. I became enthralled and proceeded to create large scale mandalas from nature, fallen flower heads, leaves, pods, cones and grasses which became more detailed with added elements from the mineral world. I have created mandalas for exhibitions at the Workshop Art Centre, Willoughby; Swedenborg Church, Roseville; Delmar Gallery, Summer Hill; Bicentennial Park, Homebush and community art in Schaelig, Canton Luzern and Bellwald, Canton Wallis in Switzerland.
